Cutting Back Mondo & Liriope Grass

With the unusual temperatures we’ve been having this winter, many plants are getting tricked into blooming or putting out new shoots early.  Now is the best time to check your Mondo and Liriope grass for new shoots.  If you don’t see any, cut back your grass!

Cutting back your grass before it has an opportunity to put on new growth for the spring can help control disease and give it a boost for healthy growing.  The best time to cut back your grass is before March when new shoots begin to form.  Using a lawnmower, set the blade to its highest position (about 3-4”).  Giving the grass a fresh cut will help promote new growth!  After your cutting is complete, add the now cut grass to your compost bin!
